Not even the collapse of Thomas Cook could prevent Tom Cook and Amelia Binch from tying the knot in Rhodes on Saturday, 28 September.

For a while, it was touch and go for the Nottinghamshire man, 29, and his 27-year-old bride, Nottinghamshire Live reports. The collapse of the holiday company late last Sunday evening sparked fears that they would not have been able to wed after the couple had booked their wedding with the firm.

The couple state that they were left “shattered” by the news that their £10,000-plans may have gone down the drain following the collapse of the company.

They had to pay to replace most of their package, however a fundraiser was set up by friends while local Greek companies were moved by the couple’s plight and stepped in to offer services for free. The staff of the four-star Lindos Princess in Rhodes did all they could to help the couple, and the collapsed company’s co-ordinator also continued to offer services for free despite the fact that she had officially been left jobless.

Mr Cook said the travel company had promised the couple a ‘surprise’ on their wedding day because he shared the same name as the company, however he did not expect the collapse of the company.
