It’s been a huge week for Melbourne Stars all-rounder Marcus Stoinis.

It began with him receiving the Player of the Tournament award for the 2019-20 Big Bash League season. But it didn’t end there. On Thursday evening, he led from the front, scoring 83 in the Challenger final to help his team defeat Sydney Thunder and qualify for their first ever grand final, this Saturday against the Sydney Sixers. Stoinis’ innings of 83 runs also meant he set another Big Bash record, surpassing Darcy Short’s record run tally for a single BBL season.

Stoinis’ regular season total of 607 runs topped the batting lists. It included five half centuries, a BBL record setting 147 no (the highest individual innings in BBL history). His performances spearheaded his team to finish top of the league after the regular season earning them a double chance in the finals series.

The Player of the Tournament award is decided from umpires’ votes collected after each BBL match. Stoinis finished clear of Sydney Sixers English duo Tom Curran and Alex Hales.

Speaking on cricket.com.au after winning the award, earlier in the week, Stoinis commented, “I’m honoured to have been voted as the 2019-20 KFC Big Bash League Player of the Tournament,” Stoinis said.

“I love playing for the Melbourne Stars. This team is special to me and I love having the opportunity to run out onto the field with them.”
