Social isolation during the coronavirus outbreak can be particularly challenging for schoolchildren who are also required to transition to remote learning virtual classrooms.

In a bid to remind their students of the values of community and togetherness during these difficult times and welcome them into online learning, staff at an Adelaide public primary school created a video dedicated to them with a Greek twist.

The initiative comes as part of a video series that one of the enthusiastic teachers at Prospect Primary School, Simone (Asimina) Karanicolas (aka Thespinis Asimina), had kickstarted a while ago.

The entire staff of diverse cultural backgrounds were involved in the making of the video, where they take up the role of students learning Greek words articulated in syllables so that they match the beat in the background music.

“We have shifted the power so that the teachers play the role of the students in this video,” Ms Karanicolas explains.

“We have missed our students who transitioned to online learning and we want to dedicate a video to them where they can see that the school staff are in positive spirits and are very hopeful for the future of learning.”

For anyone wanting to use the video as a learning activity, she says, the best way is to have students repeat the words displayed after they hear a staff member in the video say it.

* Please note, some scenes were filmed prior to social distancing rules and were put together with scenes filmed after social distancing rules were put in place.

The final video will be released on Sunday, 26 April, 5pm via this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdJWFCB7_Yg
