One of the things you can do while in lockdown is use your literary talents either to contribute directly to the Antipodes periodical or  to take part in this year’s Greek-Australian Cultural League (GACL) of Melbourne Literary Competition to win a prize and recognition by getting your winning work published in the organisation’s annual periodical Antipodes.

For the literary competition, you can enter work in Greek or English in the Poetry or Short Story categories. To take part in the competition you need to reside in Australia and be over 18 years old. You work needs to be submitted by email as a Word document attachment by Friday, 10 July, to the GACL email address: gaclitcomp@gmail.com

Participants will need to complete a registration form the GACL website where you will also be able to read about the full requirements to enter the competition.

The first prize in each category and in each language will receive a commemorative certificate and a monetary prize. The second and third Prizes and any commendations will receive a commemorative award certificate and books.

The winning entries will be published in the 66th issue of the literary periodical, Antipodes, that will be launched on the day of the announcement of the awards on 10 October.

Meanwhile, there is also a call out for members and non-members to contribute work that will appear in Antipodes, such as poems, short stories, studies, essays, book reviews and οther literary works, in Greek and English and the Visual Arts.

The works submitted must be original and must not have been published or promoted in another publication.

Literary works for the periodical should be no longer than the limits prescribed and will not be accepted if they exceed those limits – poems: 100 verses (lines), short stories and essays; 2,000 words, meditations: 800 words, studies: 2,000 words, book reviews and other reviews (exhibitions, music, plays, films): 1,000 words.

The works for the periodical must be emailed as Word document attachments to gacl.editor@gmail.com by Friday, 10 July.
