Victoria’s government minister Adem Somyurek was sacked from his cabinet after Channel Nine aired allegations of branch stacking and a recording of him using foul language about a ministerial colleague.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said he was also seeking Mr Somyurek’s expulsion from the Labor Party over the “shameful” commentsm contrary to Mr Somyurek’s statements that he had resigned. “He is not worthy of an opportunity to resign. He was sacked. And that is the fact of the matter,” Premier Andrews said.
Mr Somyurek earlier had said he quit Cabinet and apologised for the language he used. He also said the conversations were private between him and a long-time friend and political ally and that he would seek a police investigation into the use of secretly filmed video footage.
He rejected the claim on 60 minutes that he was involved in branch stacking.
