Victoria’s coronavirus cases are recording a decline below 500 per day, with 394 new infections in the last 24 hours.
However, the state’s death toll has hit a new record with 17 people passing away overnight. Out of the deceased, 10 were linked to aged care homes, according to premier Daniel Andrews’ announcement.
In the past week two men in their 30s lost the battle with coronavirus. Overall, the deaths included two men in their 50s, four men in their 70s, four women and two men in their 80s and two men and three women in their 90s.
A total of 634 people in the state are in hospital with Covid-19, 43 people are receiving intensive care, and 26 people are on ventilators.
In addition to coronavirus numbers, Martin Foley, Victoria’s mental health minister revealed that there had been a 9.5 per cent increase in emergency presentation for self-harm in the state compared with the same time last year.
Sadly, amongst young people, there was a 33 per cent increase in mental health related self-harm incidents.
As a result, Mr Foley announced an additional $59.7million in funding for mental health, focusing on the surge in demand for acute services.
Meanwhile, New South Wales recorded 10 cases today, and Queensland zero.
