The largest Hellenic association in the world will be forking out close to $2 million in court fees.
The Australasian Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) of New South Wales has been in a long legal dispute over administrative decisions.
In a previous report by Neos Kosmos, stakeholders within the NSW organisation said that the legal battle was focused on administrative issues and pointed to efforts also being made by members of AHEPA Australia to undermine its leadership in order to bring the Sydney branch under its jurisdiction “or else cause financial problems”.
.In 2019 the court had vindicated one side of AHEPA, the ORDER OF AHEPA NSW INC.
The Order of AHEPA NSW GRAND LODGE of NSW appealed and was apparently acquitted.

Unless there is another legal dispute, the latest ruling will signal many changes and upheavals in the organisation.
A press release sent to us by President of AHEPA Australia, George Lianos stated:
The decision of the Court (Three-member Court of Appeal) regarding the irregularities of the administration at the General Assembly of 13 November 2018 is as follows:
The irregularities were related to the members of the organisation, about 70 of the financially sound and mainly for the 140 non-members who were included in the lists of the organisation as replacements and of whom 127 voted in the General Assembly.
The decision was unanimous and mainly concerned:
1. The general meeting on November 13, 2018 and the decision for approval of the Articles of Association are invalid.
2. All decisions based on this statute taken to date are invalid.
3. The court costs will be paid by the ORDER OF AHEPA NSW INC.
Individual decisions have been arranged or will be settled in two weeks.
Mr Lianos believes that the judicial adventure will end.
He estimates that all these lawsuits may have cost up to $2 million, which will burden the organisation.
AHEPA has buildings with an estimated value of around $14 million.
Mr Lianos believes that after the court decision, AHEPA will not go ahead with building plans worth several million “because it is unprofitable”, despite the many expenses that have already been incurred.
