Victoria reported 90 new COVID-19 cases and six deaths on Wednesday.

Only three of the deaths occurred overnight, and the other three had been registered at a previous period. All six fatalities were related to aged care facilities and included the death of five males in their 80s and one male in their 90s

The state’s coronavirus-related death toll is now at 576.

Premier Daniel Andrews said on Wednesday that COVID-19 restrictions need to be renewed on 13 September, but added that there will be an update on this on Sunday.

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer said “there is a stabilisation in numbers. Only three or four new cases in the whole original Victoria on a daily basis now, and that is why the active cases are coming down so significantly, because there are really very few new cases arising in those local government areas.” He added that the same applies in aged care.

Australia has officially entered recession for the first time since 1991 when the economy contracted by 1.3 per cent. Previously, the record had been 2 per cent in June 1974.

After 29 years of uninterrupted growth, there are more than a million people out of work with a 7 per cent contraction to the GDP despite the government’s stimulus packages.

The deepest recession in Australian history has just been announced.

We have just moved a motion to debate it.

The Liberals are voting to gag it and the PM has literally turned his back on the debate #auspol
