Former NSW Labor minister Milton Orkopoulos, 62, was released on parole last year after serving 11 years in prison following his conviction for 30 child sex and drugs charges.

Back in June, Mr Orkopoulos was reportedly charged with 15 new child sex abuse offences and he is scheduled to face court in Newcastle next week.

On Wednesday he will be charged with eight more offences pertaining to sexual assault and drugs as a result of an investigation looking into his conduct in the 1990s by detectives from taskforce Glenwarrie.

Those include one count of aggravated indecent assault, three counts of aggravated sexual assault and four counts of supplying prohibited drugs.

Mr Orkopolos who served in Parliament from 1999 to 2006, was a Lake Macquarie councillor for four years before his arrest.

He met his three young male known victims through circumstances including Labor functions or work experience in his electoral office; his crimes took place in the Hunter Valley region and Lake Macquarie.

He then supplied the boys with illicit substances the likes of cannabis, heroin and alcohol before abusing them.
