Queensland police have charged a man following the death of mother-of-five Tammara Macrokanis. Her body found on the beside a Gold Coast motorway on Saturday evening.

Police had been called to investigate reports of a car that had been parked in a dangerous way near an exit of the Pacific Motorway (M1) at 9.30pm. A 31-year-old man, said to be the driver of the damaged vehicle, was taken to hospital.

The body of Tammara Macrokanis, 32, was found between motorway exits to Pimpama and Coomera, a few kilometres from where the vehicle was found. Ms Macrokanis, who was from Casino in New South Wales, was visiting family on the Gold Coast.

Queensland Police charged Kaine Andrew Carter, 31, from Upper Coomera, on a number of offences, including for the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death whilst adversely affected, driving disqualified and driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle.

The case was briefly heard in the Southport Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning. Mr Carter did not appear and he made no application for bail. He was remanded in custody to appear in court in November.

Ms Macrockanis’s family and friends are raising money for her funeral and for her children.

“She now leaves behind five beautiful children and a family who love and miss her dearly,” said the family on a GoFundMe page.

“We are completely shattered and still seeking answers around the circumstances of her death… We were all so proud of her.”
