The sudden death of Athenie Kalos, aged 18, is being mourned by the Greek community of Melbourne that knew her as a vibrant and talented young girl.
Peter Kalos, known to the community for his strong role in the thespian arts, decided to talk to Neos Kosmos in the hope that other deaths would be prevented.
Her computer records showed that the night before her death she was applying for jobs, looking at universities and recipes shortly before her life ended.
“At midnight last Saturday, my daughter decided to put an end to her life. In her room, in our house. We found her the next morning,” he said.
“I want to call out to children and parents to talk. To talk constantly and about everything. Only then will they be able to deal with problems and avert a human tragedy such as the one my family and I are facing.”

He said many people told him not to publicise the cause of his daughter’s death. “I decided not to listen, hoping that this message can save others,” he said. “My 18-year-old angel never gave us cause to think that something was troubling her and this shocked us even more.”
The father is now left with a big question mark.
