The Greek language gets the heart racing, the juices flowing and the eye pupils dilating.

New research conducted by the e-learning platform Preply – a site which connects tutors in over 27 languages – found that Greek is the fifth sexiest language following Russian, French, Portuguese, and Italian. These top five languages were rated the most sexiest in the world today.

In the study, the heart rates of participants from different linguistic backgrounds were measured. They listened to flirtatious dialogue and pick-up lines in various languages while monitored for physical reactions.

Italian was found to excite participants the most, with linguist Aleksandra Stevanovic explaining that we perceive languages like Italian as more attractive because they have less consonants stacked together.

The least sexy languages were German and Dutch, with the latter coming last in the survey.

Both men and women were attracted to the top five languages, though women were more seduced by French with a 22 per cent bpm increase opposed to men’s 17 per cent.

The study also suggested that people can sound sexier in any languages by lowering their pitch, speaking slower and adding a sultry overlay.
