Sydney Olympic return to winning ways after a huge 5-1 away victory against Wollongong Wolves at Albert Butler Memorial Park in the 15th round of NPL NSW.

The win is Olympic’s first in five rounds and sees them ascend to 5th position, two points outside of the top four.

The match began very well for the visitors after a 7th minute corner from playmaker Brendan Cholakian found defender Ben Van Meurs, who headed it in and gave his side the early lead.

Wollongong equalised swiftly in the 15th minute, after returning goalkeeper Nicholas Sorras spilled a free kick, allowing Wollongong captain Lachlan Scott to strike it into an empty net.

In the 34th minute, Olympic regained their lead after striker Mohamed Adam gave a good pass into the box to advancing left back Michael Glassock, who buried it into the top right corner.

Olympic held on to stay 2-1 up going into half time.

The away side emerged from the break in the same attacking spirits. In the 50th minute, Adam released a powerful long shot which sailed into the left side of the goal, making it 3-1.

Wollongong tried to get back into the contest, creating a few opportunities to score but were undone by their forwards’ failure to keep their shots on target.

Olympic found the back of the net again in the 86th minute, when a free kick into the box saw Adam latch onto the loose ball and smash it past goalkeeper Hayden Durose.

Adam capped off a stunning display with a final assist in the 90th minute, passing the ball to teammate Jason Madonis who placed it into the bottom left corner and made it 5-1.

Wollongong had a final chance for a consolation goal in the 92nd minute when Stefan Dimovski’s shot from range was just saved by a diving Sorras.

Olympic held on for a much-needed victory to boost their hopes for finals football.

The Blues’ next fixture is on Saturday 12th June against Sydney FC Youth at Belmore Sports Ground.
