Greece confirmed 842 new COVID-19 infections in 24 hours with 13 identified at entry points in the country.

There were another 21 coronavirus-related deaths recorded overnight, bringing the total number of deaths to 5,692.

The total number of infections since the start of the crisis is now at  153,226. Of these, 5,874 are linked to travel abroad and 47,407 to already known cases.

There have been 59 cases of the COVID-19 mutation diagnosed in the country in the regions of Athens and Crete, and officials indicate that there may be a number of cases in northern Greece as well, particularly in Thessaloniki.

The spread has thrown Greece off track in lifting restrictions.

In mid-January, retail stores opened in Greece, however health officials have documented concerns of crowding at shopping districts.
