Smiles filled the pews of The Annunciation of Our Lady on Saturday 20 February as the first baptism of the year was performed by Father Antonios.

Parents Maurizio Manzi and Kostandina Apostolou christened their first born child along with godmother Kalliope who helped bless the little boy with the name Leonardo.

The day carried some extra special significance for the family as grandmother Despina Apostolou was baptised at the East Melbourne church in 1958, who went on to get married in 1979 and in 1981 baptised her first born child Dina all under the same roof.

Close relatives and friends joined the family and godmother for a luncheon at Pier 35 Bar and Grill soon after, which included traditional servings of soumada mastiha and amigthalota (Greek almond biscuits) from the island of Chios.
