Australia’s Health Minister Greg Hunt has been taken to hospital with a suspected infection, two days after he received AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine.

Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison has taken on the health portfolio while Mr Hunt is on sick leave after spending the night under observation in hospital.

Doctors pumped him with fluid and antibiotics and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Mr Morrison is adamant that the illness is not connected to Mr Hunt’s recent coronavirus vaccine, which he received on Sunday.

“He will be fine by next week, he will be back up on his feet,” Mr Morrison told reporters in Canberra on Wednesday.

“Minister Hunt and I have worked hand-in-glove over this last year in particular on this matter and until he returns I will be personally addressing the ministerial responsibilities of health and aged care, together with minister (Richard) Colbeck.”
