Friday’s match between South Melbourne FC and the Oakleigh Cannons was a blast, not least thanks to enthusiastic crowds for both teams at Jack Edwards Reserve.
South Melbourne’s Josh Wallen gave the team a lead in the 12th minute.
For the midfielder – who played with Bentleigh Greens last year – this was a double celebratory moment, marking his first goal for the club, joining just three weeks ago.
In the second half, the Cannons showed they were determined to fight. While unable to capitalise on several opportunities, they were rewarded for their persistence when Wade Dekker tied the game on the hour mark.
Among the game’s highlights were young fans at the stadium with strong representation for both teams.

Who said girls are not into sports? As a Jack Edwards attendee speculated "they're watching the game… on their phones!"

On Saturday, Heidelberg United managed two wonder-goals in the last few minutes playing against Altona Magic, with the comeback sealing the game at 2-2.
