Two Greek filmmakers are in the Oscar nominations’ mix for the 93rd Academy Awards that will be held on 25 April.

The names of Phedon Papamichael and Yorgos Lanthimos were among the nominees announced by Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra during a global live online stream.

Yiorgos Lanthimos was nominated this year in the Best Film Editing category for his work on “The Father” starring Sir Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman. Ms Colman was the star of multiple award-winning film “The Favourite” that Mr Lanthimos directed in 2018.

Other nominees in the Best Film Editing category include Chloe Zhao for “Nomadland”; Frederic Thoraval for “Promising Young Woman”; EG Nielsen for “Sound of Metal”.

Phedon Papamichael was nominated in the Best Cinematography for the Netflix production “The Trial of the Chicago 7”. Mr Papamichael’s previous credits include “Moonlight Mile”, “Sideways”, “Walk the Line”, “The Pursuit of Happyness”, and “3:10 to Yuma”.

His rivals in the Best Cinematography category include Sean Bobbit for “Judas and the Black Messiah”; Erik Messerschmidt for “Mank”; and Joshua James Richards for “Nomadlands”.

Both “The Father” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7” are nominated for the Best Picture category.

This year, a record 76 nominations were for women, including Chloe Zhao (“Nomadland’) and Emerald Fennell (“Promising Young Woman”) who were nominated for the Best Director category”.

The Academy Awards ceremony will take place at two venues this year: The Dolby Theater in Hollywood (the traditional venue) and the Los Angeles Union Station.
