There was one community transition of COVID-19 in Brisbane, leading to lockdown lifting early at midday on Thursday rather than 5pm as originally planned.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said, “Easter is good to go.”
“I understand a lot of families in Greater Brisbane have made plans and the last thing we want to see are accidents on our roads at 5:00pm this afternoon and into the evening.”
Despite the lifting of lockdown, the Queensland premeir said some restrictions will remain in the state, such as the carrying of a mask by Queenslanders leaving their homes until 15 April.
“We will also ask you to wear those masks in indoor spaces such as shopping centres and supermarkets, indoor workplaces, public transport,” Ms Plaszczuk said.
Diners at restaurants and bars need to be seated and no dancing will be permitted, while home gatherings will be limited to 30.
Businesses and churches will be able to operate but will need to adhere to one person per two square metres.
“We are not out of the woods yet,” she said.
“I’m asking Queenslanders, all Queenslanders, for the next two weeks if we all do the right thing, we can get through this together.”
NSW is allowing for travel to Queensland, however Victoria has designated the Greater Brisbane area (including City of Brisbane, City of Ipswich, Logan City, Moreton Bay Region and Redlands City) as a “red zone” for travel permits. This means anyone who was in these areas since 12 March must isolate and get tested.
Victorian residents in a red zone can apply for a red zone permit to return home.
From the day you enter Victoria, you must return straight home and self-quarantine for 14 days and must get a coronavirus test within 72 hours of arriving.
In Melbourne’s west and southeast, residents and recent visitors have been urged to remain on high alert for coronavirus symptoms even though Victoria has not recorded any new locally acquired cases for 33 days.
the Department of Health issued a fresh warning after viral fragments were observed in a suburban catchment in Melbourne’s west following a positive sample taken on Monday, 29 march.
