Stephen Papagelou, 29, sobbed in the Melbourne County Court while hearing he would be jailed for four years for hitting and killing a grandfather.
Mr Papagelou was drunk behind the wheel of his Mercedes when he sped around teh car in front to catch up with friends in another vehicle.
During his manoeuvre, he hit and killed Henry Ekselman, 73, who was crossing Chapel Street in Prahran.
Mr Papagelou appeared remorseful in court, where he was supported by his family.

He was handed a non-parole period of two years after the judge took into consideration the fact that he has no prior convictions.
Mr Papagelou was emotional as his sentence was handed.
The Ekselman family released the following statement following the verdict: “Dad was vibrant, health and full of life. A loving and caring father, grandfather, stepfather and husband. We miss him every day.”
