It was the kind of match every tennis fan dreams to watch.
Stefanos Tsitsipas continued his straight sets winning streak, achieving a huge victory over Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 7-6, 7-5 and securing his spot in the Roland Garros semi finals.
This was the young Greek’s second win against the Russian out of their eight meetings.
“…I didn’t expect such a great level from him,” Medvedev said in a post match interview.
“I felt like I played good guys like Bublik, Garin, Tommy Paul actually, who played good from baseline. I felt that I was on top of them in the rallies, so I felt I could continue doing this today like on the hard courts. It was not the case so I had to change. I had to go more aggressive. I feel I’ve done a lot of good things today, but it was not enough to win, and that’s unfortunate.”
It was one of the Tsitsipas’ more impressive career matches, executing the victory with the utmost focus against the World No. 2.

It was however the final point which drew worldwide attention, due to a very bizarre choice on the Russian’s part.
Medvedev attempted to catch Tsitsipas off guard with an underarm serve and a serve-and-volley during the match point. The World No. 5 had other plans for the game, nailing a simple backhand winner down the line to close off the match after two hours and 19 minutes.
“I was playing against one of the best guys on the tour and it was hard to keep up the intensity and elevate the game during the entire match,” Tsitsipas said after the match.
“I feel privileged that I’m in that position [of reaching a fourth grand slam semi-final]…but, you know, my ego tells me I want more.”
Tsitsipas will be facing German Alexander Zverev in hopes of making it to the Grand Slam final and moving up a rank to No. 4.
