Sydney Olympic suffered a poor 1-0 loss against Mt Druitt Town Rangers at Belmore Sports Ground in the 17th round of NPL NSW.
The result means Olympic maintain fifth position on 24 points, three points from the top four.
The opening half featured early pressure from Olympic, with winger Fabio Ferreira sending a couple of crosses into the box to no avail.
Mt Druitt grew into the half and went ahead in the 38th minute, after former Olympic winger Jack Stewart struck a long shot into the bottom left corner past goalkeeper Nicholas Sorras.
The visitors came close to doubling their lead just a minute later when winger Fumoto Kamada had his shot saved by Sorras.
Mt Druitt kept hold of their lead going into the break.
Olympic emerged from half time with renewed energy, piling on pressure without creating any chances.
The home side’s best chance of the match came in the 67th minute. Playmaker Brendan Cholakian latched onto a through ball into the box but had his shot saved by goalkeeper and captain Carlos Saliadarre.
Mt Druitt took control of the half again, keeping the Olympic attack at bay. They came close to scoring again in the 87th. Left back Tarek Elrich dribbled into the box from the left and took a shot from a tight angle, forcing Sorras into a diving save.
The away side held on to give Olympic their seventh loss of the season.
The Blues’ next fixture is on Sunday 27 June where they will face top four rivals Manly United at Belmore Sports Ground.
