Members of the community have until 11 July to share their ideas and provide feedback on the draft design for a new playscape and upgraded walking and running track at Wattle Park in Burwood, Melbourne.

The Victorian state government will invest $4.3 million tor improvements that will provide a diverse and fun playscape within the natural setting of the park with water play swings and slides.

Parks Victoria said the playscape reflected the heritage of the park and a tram fort concert is included in the design.

Parks Victoria is also seeking feedback of walkers and hikers in the community for a proposed 3.25km walking and running track that will included upgrades to existing sections of the track with new links added to the outer parts of the park.

“The launch of this engagement is an opportunity for the community, including local schools, to provide their feedback on the designs for the playscape and walking and running track in this special park,” said Sandie Czarka, the Ranger Team Leader for Parks Victroria.

“With growing density, new housing and decreasing private open space in our city and suburbs, this project will promote recreational use in Wattle Park and contribute to improving the health and wellbeing of the community.

“The trams are a key feature of the existing playground at Wattle Park. They will continue to be part of the park and they will have a stronger connection to the new playscape and surrounding picnic facilities,” Ms Czarka said.

The project is part of a $154million Suburban Parks Programme that aims to support community health, well being, social connectivity and access to green open space.
