NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian pointed to two more weeks of lockdown after 97 cases were reported in NSW over the last 24 hours.
The numbers are expected to continue as 24 of the cases recorded were infectious while in the community.
NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said 70 of the cases recorded were from south-western Sydney, with “most” in the Fairfield area. Current areas of concern in NSW include Fairfield, Roselands, Rosebery, Canterbury, Belmore, Sutherland Shire, the St George area, Windsor, St Ives, Penrith and Bayside.
Ms Berejiklian said home learning would continue for at least another two weeks and warned that she had no “crystal ball” but said that she needs “as close to zero as possible” before there is any hope of ending the lockdown.
Home learning would continue for at least another two weeks, while the current settings for what people can and can’t do won’t change.
NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys said 201 coronavirus restriction tickets had been written in the last 24 hours, “the vast majority not in south-west Sydney”.
There are 71 patients in hospital being treated for COVID-19 and 21 are in intensive care. Those in intensive care are from all ages with one person in their 20s, two in their 30s, two their 40s, five in their 50s, five in the 60s, three in 70s and two in 80s.
