Victoria’s mainstream media outlets have reported that Melbourne will go into a snap lockdown from midnight tonight to curb the growing COVID outbreak.
Authorities are still discussing the final details, such as how how long it will last though it is expected to run from three to five days initially. It is believed that schools are likely to close and people will likely only be able to leave home for five reasons.
There are currently more than 6,500 people in Victoria isolating as a result of two COVID-19 breaches in the state.
Mask rules were tightened overnight to respond to growing outbreaks, and there are now 16 cases added to the ten included in yesterday’s numbers and two confirmed in Victoria this morning. There are two chains of transmissions which contact tracers are following in the state – one connected to Sydney removalists who delivered furniture to the Ariele apartment building in Maribyrnong and another linked to a family of four who tested positive to COVID-19 after returning from Sydney.
