Victoria’s Premier Daniel Andrews announced another lockdown for Victoria on Thursday as a result of the most recent infections noted in the state.

The premier said the lockdown would be “identical” to Lockdown 4.0, with the same rules. “If you were authorised to work then, you will be authorised to work now,” the premier said. “If you were closed then, you will be closed now.”

It’s imposition was deemed necessary due to rising case numbers. Mr Andrews said that he was concerned about the growing number of exposure sites.

“That is why it is just as important that we beat this Delta strain and we have been advised that we lock Victoria down from 11.59 tonight until 11.59 next Tuesday night,” Mr Andrews said.

Rules:

There are only five reasons to leave home: (1) for food and supplies; (2) for exercise for up to two hours, and not more than five kilometres distance from your home; (3) for caregiving; (4) for work or education if you can’t do it from home; (5) to get vaccinated.

Face masks must be work outdoors at all times, and indoors at all times, except at home.

Premier Andrews said that parts of regional Victoria would be released from lockdown, possibly before next Tuesday, if it is deemed safe to do so.

On Friday, the premier will give information about support for businesses during lockdown. He has called on the Federal Government for additional support.

“All week, there has been a bit of banter and back and forth between our government and the Commonwealth,” Mr Andrews said.

“All we’ve sought to do, and what I think we have done, is remind the Commonwealth Government that at every point, they have said that packages of support and measures and policies and plans are based on need.

“Well, there is need in Victoria from 11.59pm tonight.”
