Day two saw more medals added to both Greece’s and Australia’s medal tallies.

Dimitris Bakochristos won another bronze for Greece in the 54kg weightlifting category, missing out on the silver medal due to his weight.

Despite this, he was not disappointed with his final result.

“I am very satisfied. Despite the fact that we had some difficulties and that I faced some injuries, in the end we were vindicated. This medal gives me great strength. I sincerely feel great emotion and pride,” Bakochristos told Greek news agency ANA in an interview.

The weightlifter put up an impressive fight, producing three valid attempts of 157kg, 163kg and 165kg. The only thing that pulled him back from the silver was that he weighed just a few grams more at 53.10kg as opposed to his French opponent Axel Bourlon who weighed in at 52.95.

The weightlifter has matched his podium finish at the Rio Paralympics, where he also won bronze.

“I dedicate this medal to all those that stood by me. To my family, my coach, my sponsors. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. I want to dedicate this medal to our country, to Greece,” he said.
