Unvaccinated Victorians will be prevented from going to “many venues” once the state reopens and the COVID-19 vaccine threshold has been met.
Premier Daniel Andrews warned Victorians that once the state reached its 80 per cent target of double dose vaccinations, unvaccinated people would unlikely be able to enjoy freedoms such as attending events – including sporting matches and even going to restaurants and pubs.
Victoria has recorded 190 new local coronavirus cases today and there are fears the worst is yet to come.
The Department of Health said 103 cases were linked to known outbreaks and 87 infections were under investigation.
There were 35,464 vaccine doses administered yesterday and more than 49,500 test results received.
The state’s lockdown has been extended to September 23 – the date when 70 per cent of Victorians would have had their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
NSW records 1,533 new COVID-19 cases
NSW recorded 1,533 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8:00pm yesterday.
There were four COVID-19 deaths in the same period.
There were almost 130,000 COVID-19 vaccines administered in NSW yesterday.
There are 1,041 COVID-19 cases in hospital, with 173 people in intensive care, 62 of whom require ventilation.
Of the 173 people in intensive care, 137 are unvaccinated.
Twenty-nine have received one jab and seven are fully inoculated.
