New South Wales has recorded 1,485 new locally acquired cases while three people have suffered COVID-19 related deaths in the 24 hours to 8:00pm yesterday.

The deceased had reportedly not been vaccinated for COVID-19. At this stage,1,030 infected people are hospitalised including 175 in intensive care with 72 of those requiring ventilation.

Meanwhile, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced a milestone in vaccination rates for the state, reaching 40 per cent. She also warned the public that health experts are expecting a spike in new community transmission cases next week.

“We should remember that while we are anticipating the peak of cases to occur in the next couple of weeks, we can foreshadow that once we hit the 70 per cent double dose that life will feel much better in NSW,” she said promising that the state will never go under lockdown once the 80 per cent double vaccination target is reached.

Victoria on the other hand has recorded 183 new infections since yesterday from 48,487 test results, 101 of which linked to known outbreaks.

Currently, it is now known how many people were in the community while infectious as Government stopped sharing those statistics due to contact tracers being overrun with hundreds of new cases.

However, the total number of active infections has reached 1,417, with 91 per cent of the new cases in the under 50 age group.

Reportedly, 216 of the cases are children under the age of 10 and 232 more infections are aged 10-19, 348 are aged in their 20s, and 245 are aged in their 30s.

Premier Daniel Andrews has opened the conversation of regional Victoria potentially exiting lockdown next week if vaccination rates continue to increase at this rate.
