There were 1,143 new COVID-19 cases recorded for Victoria on Friday morning and three deaths, following on from 1,438 cases the day before.

The case numbers noted a reduction from yesterday’s spike, and was announced on the back of yesterday’s 62,883 COVID tests.

Zero cases were detected in hotel quarantine.

Victoria’s Premier Daniel Andrews had said that a spike had come from the numbers of illegal household gatherings during the AFL grand final weekend, and health authorities have called on people who may have gathered with others last weekend to immediately get tested.

Figures are expected to rise even further, which will mean that Victoria’s roadmap to freedom may need to be paused or modified.
