Victoria has recorded 1488 new local COVID-19 cases in the last day and a further two deaths.

The results come from more than 71,000 tests, while over 36,000 vaccines were administered across the state yesterday.

There are now 11,591 active cases in Victoria.

The City of Greater Shepparton entered a week-long snap lockdown at midnight last night, with restrictions the same as those currently in place in metropolitan Melbourne but without a curfew in place.

There are now 24 active cases of COVID-19 in Greater Shepparton, with the number expected to rise in coming days as health authorities express concerns about onward transmission.

Meanwhile, Premier Dan Andrews announced that all authorised workers must have at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine by October 15 to continue working on-site as the construction sector prepares to reopen next week.

Every construction site must have a designated fully trained COVID-19 marshal to ensure compliance with restrictions. Before reopening, operators will need to have an up-to-date vaccination register available for compliance checks.

Aged care advocates say visits should be allowed at all nursing homes in Victoria if people coming to see fully immunised residents have also had a double dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

Residents and staff in Australia’s 2600 aged care homes have now had at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine and the NSW state government this week announced from October 11 aged care residents could have two visits daily. Visitors must be fully vaccinated for coronavirus and aged over 12.

But Victoria’s rules on visitors to aged care homes do not mention vaccination, instead stipulating residents can have visitors for reasons including their “physical or emotional wellbeing”, or if they are living with dementia.
