A new campaign could see Australians vaccinated against COVID-19 win up to $1 million as part of an effort to help accelerate the country’s vaccination rates.

Inspired by the ‘Vax-A-Million’ campaign that took place in Ohio, United States, The Million Dollar Vax campaign promises to give away a total of $4.1 million worth of prizes to entrants who have been vaccinated against the virus.

The campaign spans across four and a half weeks awarding lucky winners with $1000 gift cards aside from the $1 million prize, which will be given away on 5 November. Any Australian over the age of 18 is eligible to win provided both vaccinations have been had by six weeks after 31 October 2021.

Supported by the Million Dollar Vax Alliance, which consists of philanthropists and corporations wanting to push vaccination numbers above 80 per cent nationally the campaign aspires to is estimated to save more than $60 million in averted healthcare costs, according to Jack Heath, Philanthropy Australia chief executive.

“The faster we reach higher vaccination rates nationally, higher than 80 per cent, the sooner we all can safely resume our full range of community and business activity,” said Craig Winkler of the Million Dollar Vax Alliance.

“I’m not fussed about what motivates you – whether it is for your health and to help the people you love, to protect our health system and our nurses or to win $1 million,” Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said.

“Just go and get vaccinated.”
