A 20-year-old man has died and a teenager was left injured following a police car chase in Piraeus, Attica, that led to the arrest of seven officers for intentional homicide.

The fatal incident took place in the Perama suburb late Friday night with the seven police arrested on Saturday and were expected to face a prosecutor by the evening.

Police said that six officers were also injured.

According to the police announcement, officers of the DIAS motorcycle-riding unit chased the car, that was suspected to be stolen, after the driver did not respond to a signal to stop and sped off.

The car was said to eventually be intercepted by a bus, at which point the driver reportedly turned and rammed the police motorcycles behind.

Officers then started to shoot towards the car, from which a third man managed to flee the scene and is wanted by authorities.

The full report on the death of the 20-year-old will be released on Monday, but initial evidence points to more than one bullet wound on the victim’s body with most of the seven officers reportedly having fired shots.

At least 20 gunshots are heard in a video allegedly capturing the Piraeus shootout from distance.

According to media reports, the 20-year-old who was shot dead was unarmed and a member of the Roma community.
