Victoria has recorded 1355 new COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths as Melbourne wakes to its first full day of eased restrictions for many retail and entertainment venues and travellers across the state take to the roads after the border between the city and regions was lifted at 6pm on Friday.

There are currently 747 people in Victorian hospitals with COVID-19, including 135 receiving intensive care.

The new infections were found from 68,484 test results processed on Friday.

The latest figures were released as Victoria woke to its first full day on the same level of restrictions after months of extended lockdowns.

The changes came into effect from 6pm on Friday, at which point non-essential retailers, entertainment venues, cinemas and gyms were allowed to open their doors.

NSW has recorded 237 new cases of coronavirus and three deaths.

In a statement on Saturday morning, NSW Health said 236 of those cases were locally acquired and one was an overseas case.

About 5,500 people will attend Derby Day at Flemington Racecourse today, the first large event of both the Spring Racing Carnival and post-lockdown Melbourne.

It will be followed by a concert for 4,000 fully vaccinated people at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Saturday evening.
