Another two Greek-Australians have died of COVID-19 as Victoria has recorded 989 new local COVID-19 cases and nine deaths, the first time daily case numbers have been below 1,000 since September 28.
From data gathered by Neos Kosmos, at least 40 Melburnian Greeks have died in the latest wave of the pandemic, on top of at least 150 which died in the second wave last year as COVID-19 spread like wildfire through aged care homes.
There are now 19,409 active cases of the virus in Victoria, and 318 people have died during the state’s current Delta outbreak.
The new cases were identified from 48,002 test results reported yesterday.
There were 16,158 doses of vaccine administered at state-run sites yesterday, as well as more vaccinations at GP clinics and other venues.
There are now 667 people in hospital with COVID-19, of whom 127 are in intensive care and 76 are on a ventilator.
NSW has recorded 173 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases and 4 deaths.
There are 333 people in hospital with the virus and 72 of them are in the ICU.
Of the state’s population aged 16 and older, 87.8 per cent are double vaccinated while 93.6 per cent have received at least one dose.
The day’s cases are up on yesterday’s numbers, when 135 cases were reported.
The NSW government has made significant changes to the state’s COVID-19 roadmap, bringing forward new freedoms for fully vaccinated people and delaying privileges for those who’ve shunned the jab.
