Australia’s Matildas will be hosting on the FIFA world number one team, the US Women’s National Team in two big matches at the end of the month in Sydney and Newcastle.
It will be the first time in 21 years that the two-time world cup winners will be coming to Australia to play the Commonwealth Bank Matildas first at the Stadium Australia in Sydney on Saturday, 27 November and then at the McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle on Tuesday, 30 November.
With venue capacities for both venues lifted by the New South Wales government, Football Australia said fans had the opportunity to break the previous attendance record for a Matildas’ match at home, which was the 33,000 whom came to watch Australia play Sweden in the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

The matches against the US team will be invaluable preparation for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.
Football Australia CEO, James Johnson, said: “The exhilarating football played by the Commonwealth Bank Matildas against Brazil in October once against highlighted why this team is loved by Australians.
“With over 27,000 combined supporters at CommBank Stadium and over 465,000 watching on Channel 10, Australia’s ‘Home of Football’, the Commonwealth Bank Matildas have demonstrated their box office appeal. This was only the beginning, and I now encourage all football fans to celebrate with us again and help us break our previous attendance record at these upcoming games in Sydney and Newcastle and see some of the world game’s biggest superstars,” Johnson said.
