Ange Postecoglou had plenty to be happy about in the way Celtic delivered a 3-2 away victory over Ferencváros in Budapest on Thursday night. It was result that leaves the Scottish team a point behind Real Betis who on seven points are second in Group G of the Europa League.

While the scoreline was close, Postecoglou said the Hoops had a greater control of the match and should have come away with a few more goals.

“I’m super happy with the effort the boys put in. I thought our football was really good tonight. “We scored three great goals, and could have had a couple more. It was disappointing to concede a second because I don’t think it was a true reflection of the game,” Postecoglou told celticfc.com

“To come away from home and win is always a challenge in Europe, but to do it in the manner that we did tonight is full credit to the players.”

The Hungarian champions were on the backfoot early in the game when Kyogo Furuhashi put the visitors ahead in the second minute.

Oleksander Zubkov produced the equaliser eight minutes later by a way of a high deflection off the boot of Celtic left back Josip Juranovic that beat Joe Hart.

Celtic’s Portuguese winger Jota (short for João Pedro Neves Filipe) delivered Celtic’s impressive second from just outside the box as three Ferencváros defenders failed to close him down in the 24th minute.

Minutes later, Ferencváros’ Tokmac Nguen delivered a ball that brought Myrto Uzuni into the box but Hart parried a dangerous shot on his goal.

Just minutes before the end of the first half, Liel Abada wove through the defence to set up David Turnbull for a shot on goal that Ferencváros goalkeeper Adam Bogdán kept out.

More chances came Celtic’s way in the second half before Furuhashi played in Abada who scored Celtic’s third goal half an hour from time.

Ferencváros’ Morton Uzuni pounced on a scuffed effort by substitute Michael Johnston to break out of Celtic half. Uzuni scored a magnificent goal the 85th minute but it was not enough for the home team.

Postecoglou said the victory was a team effort.

“All parts of the team were functioning. The front three were great but they do it off the platform of what the other players are providing for them in terms of opportunities. So it great rewards for them, and three great goals.

“We’re getting there. We’ve still got some work to do, but it certainly helps because the front three put a big shift in and it’s great to be able to take them off and put on three guys who have equal quality and they can contribute for us.”

The next Europa League fixture is an away game against unbeaten Group G leaders Leverkusen (on 10 points) on 26 November. The German team beat Real Betis 4-0 on Thursday night.

Celtic who are second in Scottish Premier League, travel to Dundee on Sunday.
