The Athens Marathon was cancelled last year, with a virtual edition taking place instead. This year, the 2021 Athens Marathon is back and will take place from 13-14 November.
The 2021 Athens Marathon event will apply all safety rules and regulations of the National Public Health Organisation, and abide by SEGAS’ “Road Races Staging Health Protocol”, approved by the relevant Health Committee of Ministry of Sports.
According to the current Health Protocol, only fully vaccinated runners and runners with proof of recovery from COVID-19 until 15 days before their kit collection from the Registration Centre can register and participate in the 2021 Athens Marathon event.
A new feature this year is that each race will consist of two groups that start at different times, in observance of health protocols due to the coronavirus pandemic. A total of 30,000 runners have registered so far, including 10,000 in the main race.

The 2021 Athens Marathon event will include the following Road Races:
- Marathon Race & Power Walking 42.195km on the Authentic Course (Road Race A & Road Race B) | November 14th: The Marathon Race “A” will start in (09.00) and Marathon Race “B” will start in (09.45) and each starting block will have up to 500 runners
- 10km Road Race (Road Race A & Road Race B) | November 13rd: The 10km Race “A” will start in (17.00) and Marathon Race “B” will start in (18.00) and each starting block will have up to 500 runners
- 5km Road Race (Road Race A & Road Race B) | November 14th: The 5km Race “A” will start in (08.00) and 5km Race “B” will start in (09.00) and each starting block will have up to 500 runners
To ensure the safest appliance of the Health Protocol, the Kids Run and the 1000m Special Olympics Run, will not take place this year.
A significant number of runners have chosen to defer their entry from the 2020 event to this year’s event, and will automatically receive their new registration confirmation by priority, as soon as the registration period opens.
