Greece confirmed 7,335 new COVID-19 infections in 24 hours, creating a new record on Monday. There were also 65 deaths recorded, bringing the total number of pandemic victims in the country to 16,361. The majority of deaths – 95.3 per cent – concern people who either had an underlying condition or were aged over 71 years. There are currently 477 people on ventilators at hospitals, and 401 of these people are either unvaccinated or partly vaccinated (84.28 per cent) and only 75 are fully vaccinated (15.72 per cent).

There have been 3,356 people discharged from ICUs since the pandemic began.

The average age of new infections is 38 years, while the average age of fatalities is 78 years.

The increase of in new cases since 30 October have created a drive to increase the vaccination rates in the country.

During Monday’s live briefing, Greece’s Public Health Care Secretary General Marios Themistoklous said that there had been a 185 per cent increase in appointments for the first dose of the vaccination in the last seven days and a 200 per cent increase for appointments for the booster shot.
