Victoria recorded 1,343 new COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths during the second wave of the crisis to 345.

There are currently 73 people on ventilators from 109 people in intensive case from the 634 people in hospital in the state with COVID-19.

The recent numbers came as Victoria’s border with NSW and the ACT under the state’s travel permit system coming into effect at midnight tonight.

Vaccinated people from Greater Sydney and the ACT will be able to visit Victoria without quarantining or testing.

People who are not fully vaccinated will still face heavy restrictions on arrival in Victoria or when crossing the border into NSW.

Victoria’s Health Department has contacted people who are considered close contacts from a contractor who tested positive at the Melbourne Cup and Flemington Derby.

People who attended the venues have been advised to monitor their health and get tested if they show any symptoms.

The venues have already been deep cleaned ahead of Saturday’s Stakes Day.
