Victoria confirmed 1003 new locally acquired COVID-19 infections on Wednesday and 14 more deaths.

There are 471 Victorians in hospital, with 84  in intensive care and 46 on a ventilator.

There are 84.5 per cent of Victorians over the age of 12 currently vaccinated, and 92.7 per cent have received their first jab. It is predicted that 90 per cent of Victorians will be fully vaccinated by 24 November.

Victorian Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton was ambushed as he walked down the steps of Victoria’s Parliament in Melbourne on Thursday as protestors gathered outside the building. He met with a chorus of boos and was yelled at. Protestors are slamming new powers given to the government in new pandemic legislation.

The proposed laws would the allow Victoria’s Premier to declare pandemics and extend it in three-month blocks, while the Health Minister would be able to enforce controversial public health orders, such as the ability to enforce the detention of people, restrict movement and regulate public or private gatherings.

The controversial Pandemic Management Bill has already been passed in lower house.

NSW confirmed 216 new COVID-19 infections and three deaths with 90.1 per cent of the state’s population over 16 being fully vaccinated and 94 per cent having received at least one jab.
