The 2021 Victorian Bicentenary Committee, in collaboration with Neos Kosmos, launched a special exhibition of photographs by Dimitra Hatziadam at the Coburg on Victoria on 12 December.

The exhibition, ‘EVZONES/Guardians of the Unseen’ was inaugurated on the 153rd anniversary since the creation of the Presidential Guard.

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou tweeted her congratulations to the Greek Presidential Guard, created on 12 December 1868. “We are proud of our Evzones, the sleepless guards of our glorious history, who for 153 years have continued to leave their indelible print on the soul of the nation.

Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounda was present at the exhibition, as well as Consul General of Greece to Melbourne, Emmanuel Kakavelakis along with 2021 Victorian Bicentenary Committee President Antonis Tsourdalakis. Neos Kosmos Publisher Christopher Gogos was present at the event, along with Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos and counsellors from Brimbank and Moreland.

Cypriot Community of Melbourne and Victoria Theo Theophanou, Pan Macedonian Association President Paul Mavroudis, Greek Elderly Citizens Clubs of Melbourne President John Kostoulias, and many more representatives from the Pontian Association and Cretan Brotherhood were present.

Youth from the Pontian Estia were present at the event, wearing their traditional costumes.

Secretary General for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy sent a special virtual address, where he focused on Evzones as symbols of Greece who represent the “military virtues of Greeks”.

“They are the total sum of heroic deeds at every period in history when freedom was secured,” he said, while calling on the Australian diaspora to continue thinking of Greece as their second country, while making Greeks proud.
