Greece’s beauty entrant may have missed out on winning the 70th Miss Universe 2021 pageant, held in Eilat, Israel, but Greece was definitely a hot topic of conversation.

First it was Rafaela Plastira, who said in October “she could not go up on stage, acting like nothing is happening when people are fighting for their lives (between Israel and Palestine)”, however Star GS Hellas refuted these claims, stating that the real entrant to Miss Universe 2021 was not Plastira but entrant Sofia Arapogianni who replaced Star GS Hellas 2021, Katerina Kouvoutsaki, who could not represent Greece for health reasons which did not permit her to travel to Israel.

Arapogianni, a 22-year-old Merchant Marine Academy student from Ithaca, went to the pageant to represent Greece.

She stole the show, and not necessarily in a good way, due to her controversial choice of Amazon-styled outfit in the traditional costume category. Opinions were dividied.

The Miss Universe crown went to Miss India, Harnaaz Sandhu, who is 21 years of age and hails from Punjab.
