It was not a happy Christmas for several Greek Orthodox families in Melbourne as they arrived at Fawkner cemetery to pay their respects to their departed loved ones.

Visitors arrived to discover up to 180 graves damaged.

“I just cried. I just couldn’t believe all the devastation and damage. It was just so sad,” said Pauline Anastasiou who went to the cemetery to find her mother in law’s grave destroyed.

“It’s everywhere. Like a tornado has come through and broken everything!”

Toombstones smashed and flowers had been thrown around everywhere.

“It’s disgraceful. I’m lost for words,” gushed another victim, Victoria Pilipasdis.

It is not yet known who the vandals are and how they managed to enter the cemetery.

Police are investigating the heinous crime, even though it is the third time Fawkner cemetery has been targetted.

“They’ve climbed and put cameras up. They’ve increased security and it happened again,” a devastated Angela Pilipasdis told 7News.
