Generous and kindhearted, just like Santa, a Greek businessman in Melbourne has been sharing the magic of Christmas every year, making sure that no child goes without a present under the Christmas tree on that special day.
For the past five years, knowing that some families would not be able to afford to give their children what they have wished for, the Greek-Australian philanthropist, who wants to remain anonymous, puts out a call through our newspaper, to assist those people struggling to afford a present for their children.
His goal each year is to take gifts to around a hundred families.
“The most important thing I have realised during this time, is that there is indeed poverty within the Greek community. I don’t think many people actually realise this, that there is poverty, and that we should do everything we can to help, especially as we know that Greeks usually struggle to ask for help, even if they need it desperately,” the kind man told Neos Kosmos.
This wonderful idea to reach out to the community came to him when he saw presents piling up under Christmas trees in shopping malls, for the less fortunate children and he wondered whether there were also Greek children whose parents might not be able to afford a gift for them.
So this year, this kind and generous man, offered gifts to 25 families, and he tells Neos Kosmos that there were fewer than previous years, which surprised him, as he felt that the second year of the pandemic was especially hard for many.
All the gifts he gives are different and unique, depending on what each child has asked for on their list to Santa.
