As the more infectious Omicron variant sweeps across Australia, infecting tens of thousands every day, some residential aged care facilities are taking precautionary measures to protect their elderly residents.
After all, the tragic events of last year’s second wave of the pandemic are still fresh in our community when dozens of elderly aged care residents lost their lives to the virus.
Fronditha Care is amongst the first Aged Care establishments to take immediate action.
In a statement sent to our newspaper, CEO of Fronditha Care, Faye Spiteri (Tsolaki), stated that:
“Fronditha Care, has decided to stop visitations to all its nursing homes, in response to the danger residents and staff face due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant and the delays in receiving PCR test results.
We also use antigen tests (RAT), but with caution, as they have not proven to be reliable in the past. This measure started on Thursday 30 December and we are reviewing it every week.
The community needs to be very vigilant, now more than ever, as we try to overcome these new challenges.
Fronditha Care’s primary concern is the safety of the people we support, and we therefore do not hesitated to take additional measures when we feel it is in their best interest.”
