The Greek Australian community mourns the unexpected death of 23-year-old James Kondilios after falling sick with COVID-19.

Kondilios was healthy and double-vaccinated without underlying health issues. He passed away at St Vincent’s Hospital where he had been receiving treatment.

His family and friends made a heartfelt post on social media warning people to be careful as COVID-19 can take its toll even on perfectly healthy, fit people.

Kondilios grew up in Sydney, where he attended Waverley College and moved on to complete an advanced science degree at the Australian National University in Canberra where he worked until recently as a data scientist at the Department of Social Services.

In 2015, he represented Australia at the Power Lifting World Championships in Finland, where he won a bronze medal.

In 2019, Kondilios was also presented with a Science and Innovation award back in 2019 by then Agriculture Minister David Littleproud for his work on forestry and climate change.
