Melina Aslanidou is once again coming to Australia, this time in March, as part of the Greek Festival of Sydney and Andipodes Festival in Melbourne.

Aslanidou is one of the most successful singers of her generation, known for her remarkable vocal range and unique songs.

She first visited Australia back in 2002 alongside the legendary George Dalaras.

Aslanidou will perform at Darling Harbour on 13 March as well as at Sydney’s Factory theatre on 16 March. She will then travel to Melbourne to perform on 19 March at Daniel’s Carpark (a double vaccinated patrons only event).

WHO IS MELINA ASLANIDOU

Melina Aslanidou was born in Stuttgart though she soon returned with her family to Greece and grew up in Giannitsa.

Her first contact with music was in an early age when she started participating in the local choir and later on in musical school events. At the age of 18 she went to Thessaloniki for studies and later on started singing at small student venues.

In 1996 she met Christos Mitrentzis, a remarkable Greek traditional musician where she collaborated with him for several years. Together they took part at the WOMAD FESTIVAL in Berlin as representatives of Greek traditional music.

In 2001 the group “Oi Apenantoi” was created where she was the lead singer. They released the cd single “To Parelthon Thimithika” and the song “Ti sou kana kai pineis” which went on to become a hit. In 2002 she withdrew from the group and started working in Athens, collaborating with the legendary singer George Dalaras in live concerts and tours in Greece and abroad.

In April 2003 she released her first album “To perasma” and in the summer of the same year she toured Greece with Dimitra Galani. The following year she joined Eleftheria Arvanitaki in a series of live concerts.

At the end of 2004 she cooperated with Giannis Kotsiras during his live shows whilst releasing a CD single with three songs under the title “Treis Euhes” which became an instant success.

She also cooperated with Orpheas Peridis in a series of concerts in Athens and Thessaloniki followed by collaborations with the iconic Dimitris Mitropanos, Glykeria and Stelios Dionisiou.

In the summer of 2007 she released the CD single “Psila Takounia” and toured with Kostas Makedonas all over Greece. In the winter she cooperated with Manos Pirovolakis and Giorgos Karadimos in a series of live performances in Athens.

She has also participated on an ΑΝΤ1 TV show ,The Voice of Greece and in 2014-2015 her best selling record ‘Melina’ became platinum.

In 2019-2020 she was a judge on the popular X FACTOR on Open TV and in 2021 she again collaborated with Glykeria, while releasing her own music.
