On a glorious balmy night at the jam packed Golden Square Car Park on Lonsdale Street, a fresher than ever Melina Aslanidou gave one of her best performances.

The sound of Greece made Melbourne’s CBD feel like downtown Athens on a Saturday night.

“Last night we enjoyed a stunning performance by Aslanidou,” Bill Papastergiadis who organised the concert alongside Antipodes Festival president Leonidas Vlahakis, told Neos Kosmos.

“She had a direct connection with the audience as she spoke and exchanged comments with them. Aslanidou appeared to thoroughly enjoy being with us. For many of us it transported us back to a summertime in Greece. A warm night in an open intimate environment in the centre of Melbourne”

“After two years in lockdown it was an amazing exit back into normality,” Mr Papastergiadis added. “The Greek community of Melbourne continues to provide musical events reminding us of our connections with Greece. It was truly a magical night. Well organised and everyone appeared to have a wonderful experience.”

Following last night’s success, Aslanidou will be returning to Sydney for another performance at the Greek Festival at Darling Harbour on Sunday, 27 March.

Tumbalong Park will be packed with food vendors, dishing up classic and modern twists on Greek snacks and sweets including everything from souvlakia, sheftalies, haloumi, loukoumades, a licensed bar and much more.

There will also be Greek dance performances at the Convention Centre Forecourt by Sydney’s best Greek and Cypriot dancing schools and loads of live music entertainment from local Melbourne artist Maria Maroulis.
