Greek – Australian households in financial need will receive an Easter Hamper this year thanks to the efforts of the Greek Orthodox Parishes and the Greek Welfare Centre Victoria (GWC).

For over two decades the Greek Welfare Centre Victoria of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia has taken the leading role in organising and coordinating an Easter and Christmas Food Hampers Appeal with the solid support of the Parish Network of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and the Greek-Australian Community of Victoria.

GWC once again calls upon the Greek-Australian community to demonstrate their ‘filotimo’ and contribute as much as they are able to to alleviate some of the heavy challenges that 2021 and 2022 has brought.

“The Greek Welfare Centre would like to encourage more Greek-Australian businesses to give generously to our Easter Food Appeal,” the open call said.

“The more we collect, the more we are able to distribute through our volunteer network to disadvantaged Greek – Australian families in Metropolitan Melbourne.”

Health and practical reasons restrict the collection to non-perishable food items such as oil, pasta, rice, coffee, tea, sugar, biscuits, canned food including vegetables, meat, ham – sauces, flour, spices and snacks.

Before purchasing or dropping off such items to the collection points, please check the use-by dates and that there are no ruptures to the packaging.

The non-perishable food and toys can be dropped off at the Greek Orthodox Churches by April 17 the latest, and/or at Greek Welfare Centre by 21 Thursday April 21 2022 at the Holy Monastery of ‘Axion Estin’ at 7 Hartington Street Northcote any time between 9am and 5pm except for public holidays.
